Outside Area of the Veste

The Veste Coburg boasts a thousand-year-old history. Today the grounds skilfully blend elements of the late Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods with those of the more contemporary historicism and Gothic Revival. The oldest elements can be found in the rustic stonework of the Blue Tower, which dates back to the High Middle Ages, and the foundation of the first rectangular stronghold. The walls of the palas are hidden inside the Ducal Palace. The palas was once connected to a kitchen and a chapel. Access to the castle during these early times likely led through what is now the Bear’s Bastion. Whether the Hohes Haus, towers or bastions – all of the elements of the Veste visible today boast an exciting history.
