In the STUDIO – Remarkable bladed weapons from Indonesia
1 March 2019 – 21 July 2019
In its small STUDIO, which is included in the tour of the Veste, the Art Collections provide a multitude of perspectives on the work of the museum. It shows individual objects, small sections of the collections, new acquisitions or restoration projects in temporary exhibitions.
The first show is dedicated to weapons: Made up of 17,508 islands, 6,044 of which are inhabited, Indonesia is the world’s largest island state. Like the country itself, Indonesia’s bladed weapons come in many shapes and sizes, yet are extremely characteristic at the same time. In a well-endowed studio exhibition, the Veste Coburg Art Collections provide special insights into this fascinating world of forms, especially from the technical and artistic perspective. The items, most of which are from the Werner Uhlmann collection, originate from the islands of Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Celebes, among others.
