THEME TOUR 1 IN THE OUTDOOR AREAS
From the castle to the palace, from the palace to the fortress: The 60-minute tour of the outdoor areas leads through the courtyards and (if the group can make the journey through the tunnel/over the outside staircase) to the Bear’s Bastion and the High Bastion. There is so much to learn about the buildings, fountains and bulwarks. At the heart of it all is the exterior of the castle grounds, whose building history dates back to the 11th/12th century. It underwent a number of changes, from its heyday as the seat of power of the House of Wettin until well into the 20th century.

THEME TOUR 2 LUTHER AT THE VESTE
In 1530 Martin Luther resided in the Stone Chamber at the Veste for six months. Guests of the tour will learn why he was not permitted to take part in the Diet of Augsburg, what he thought and wrote while in Coburg, how the Veste became an important Luther memorial and much more.

THEME TOUR 3 ART – RELIGION – POLITICS
From Lucas Cranach to Grünewald, from the “Gandersheimer Evangeliar” gospel book to the Scheuerfeld Pietá. The tour of the German Renaissance collection showcases select pieces to shed light on art during the Middle Ages and the early modern period.

THEME TOUR 4 WEAPONS – ARMOUR – CARRIAGES
From Dwarf Rupert’s suit of armour to hunting weapons to Queen Victoria’s Gala Coupé. Discover the armoury and the collection of hunting weapons in the Herzoginbau of the Veste. Baroque sleighs and magnificent carriages await you in the basement.
