Do I have to pre-order tickets for my visit?

No.

Is the Veste Coburg a castle or a museum?

The Veste Coburg is both. The permanent collections are on display in the historical rooms inside the Veste. Your ticket allows you to visit the inside of the castle as well as the permanent collections. They cannot be separated.

Who owns the Veste?

The Coburger Landesstiftung Foundation is the Veste Coburg Art Collections sponsor. The art collections are part of a private museum. Bayerische Schlösserverwaltung owns the property.

Can I visit the Veste without a guide?

All collection rooms can also be visited without a guide. For in-depth information, there are hall texts, display texts and in several places digital information media. You can also borrow an audioguide at the museum cash desk.

How can I enter the artillery exhibit in the covered battery?

Your ticket to the art collections includes access to the covered battery (via the turnstile). The artillery exhibit is included in the price of admission.

How long does it take to tour the inside of the Veste?

It depends on how much time you spend viewing which exhibits. It takes a good hour or so to see all of the rooms and perhaps stop to take a closer look at one or two pieces that catch your eye. However, if you wish to enjoy a closer look at the multifaceted permanent collection and dive deep in to the rich history of the Veste, we suggest you plan in a bit more time.

Can I bring my dog into the museum?

Dogs are not permitted in the museum. Only seeing eye dogs are permitted in the permanent collection.

Can I bring my backpack or bag with me in the museum?

To protect the pieces on display, we kindly ask that you store large bags, backpacks, umbrellas, walking sticks, tripods, etc. in the lockers in the cloakroom.

Can I enter the museum with a stroller, buggy or baby back carrier?

To protect the pieces on display, we kindly ask that you leave strollers, buggies or baby back carriers in the cloakroom. We recommend using a fabric front carrier for your baby. You can also rent one from us.

May I touch the pieces on display?

Visitors are not permitted to touch the artwork. We ask that you please watch your children to ensure they do not touch any of the pieces.

Is there a changing area for my baby?

Changing areas are available near the toilets at the entrance and in the disabled WC in the courtyard.

Can I eat and drink at the Veste?

You can access our self-service cafeteria from the museum shop (entrance 2, courtyard). The cafeteria (self-service) offers coffee, refreshments and snacks. The Burgschänke pub is located in front of the main gate to the Veste. The Burgschänke is not open every day! Please notice the opening times. Eating and drinking in the collection rooms is prohibited for conservatory reasons. Suction bottles for babies may be used.

May I use my phone in the collection rooms?

Please be considerate of others and refrain from using mobile phones in the exhibition areas.

May I take pictures in the collection rooms?

If you do not use a flash or tripod and the images are only intended for personal use: yes. However, photography is not permitted in the special exhibitions.

I am a chaperon for a school class or a group of children or youths. Who is responsible for supervising the children during the visit to the museum?

Teachers and other chaperons are required to supervise school classes or groups of children or youths during their entire visit in all areas of the Veste. This also applies to educational museum programmes like tours and workshops.

Can I rent rooms at the Veste?

Because the Veste is a museum, areas such as the Great Court Chamber are only suitable for specific purposes, such as concerts or readings. Catering is not permitted. For more information, please contact Mr. Höpp:

Can I plan my child’s birthday at the Veste?

Of course. We also have special programmes just for young birthday boys and girls. Guests may enjoy birthday cakes and drinks they bring themselves in the cafeteria.

Can we get married in the Luther Chapel?

Are there church services in the Luther Chapel?

During the summer, themed church services are held in the chapel on the first Sunday of every month at 4 pm.

Are the art collections senior-friendly?

The location and construction of the castle make it difficult to provide access that is free of barriers in some cases – particularly for senior citizens or people with physical disabilities. We recommend planning in enough time for the walk from the parking area to the Veste (especially if you have booked a tour). Walking aids may be used in the art collections as long as a rubber pad can be inserted on the tips. Walkers are not really recommended due to the many stairs. Light folding stools can be rented for short sitting breaks.

Are the art collections completely accessible for the disabled?

We have been working on making the Veste accessible for the disabled for quite some time. The art collections have two lifts (Ducal Palace and covered battery). The entrance area, shop and cafeteria are accessible for the disabled. You can see the points accessible for the disabled and any restrictions and what we can offer people with seeing and hearing impairments here.

How far can I travel up the Veste in my car?

If you have the proper authorization, you may park in the marked disabled parking spaces. There is a parking area in the courtyard for persons with wheelchairs who are traveling alone. People who cannot make the journey up the hill on foot may exit their vehicles in the courtyard. However, the car must then be parked in one of the marked visitor spaces.

How long does it take to travel from the visitor parking to the museum entrance on foot?

If you wish to walk from the Brandensteinsebene parking area to the Veste, you should plan in 20 minutes. This is important to note if you have booked a tour, for example.

Where are the toilets?

The museum’s WCs for visitors are located in the entrance hall and in the cafeteria/museum shop area. Visitor WCs are also located outside of the museum across from the turnstile leading to the artillery exhibit.
