The Old German Art Collection has been given a new design. Paintings, sculptures and handcrafts from the George Schäfer Collection and the historical collections held in the Veste Coburg have now been rearranged according to theme, with a comprehensive collection of 27 works by Lucas Cranach the Elder and Lucas Cranach the Younger forming the focal point of the gallery.

The painting of the Last Supper by Mathis Gothardt Nithardt, called Grünewald, created around 1500, is formed by two altar wing panels, which were joined at a later date. The reverse sides show Saint Agnes and Saint Dorothy on a golden background.
